Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann says AI will ‘revolutionize’ development

Neil Druckmann, studio head and head of creative at The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog, feels the dawn of more powerful AI tools will "revolutionize how content is being created."

Opining on the technology during an interview with Naughty Dog parent Sony, Druckmann acknowledged there are some "ethical issues we need to address" where AI is concerned, but says it could open the door for studios or "to take on more adventurous projects and push the boundaries of storytelling in games."

Druckmann didn't name-drop any AI tools or technology specifically, but his comments come at a time when major companies like Microsoft

The compact Switch Lite is Nintendo’s newest dedicated handheld

Nintendo has announced a more compact, handheld-only version of the Switch called the Switch Lite.

The long-rumored console was unveiled on YouTube earlier today, and looks similar to the flagship Switch aside from a few notable differences

For starters, the Switch Lite comes in three unique colors — yellow, gray, and turquoise — and does away with detachable Joy-Cons in favor of integrated controls. It also sports a proper d-pad as opposed to the original's individual directional buttons.

The absence of Joy-Cons means the Switch Lite doesn't pack an IR Motion Camera or HD Rumble features. As a result, games that rely heavily on motion controls like

Nvidia debuts developer program for its game streaming service

The folks at Nvidia are looking to grow their GeForce Now game streaming service, and this week at GDC they're launching a formal developer program in a bid to get more games on the platform.

If this sounds familiar, it's because Nvidia has been running a game streaming service in some form since 2014, when it launched as GRID. Since then it's gained a new name, new features and a slate of new games.

"We have about 80 games now, and we've been doing that kind of one-on-one, with publishers," Nvidia's Phil Eisler told Gamasutra last week. They'd like to have more, so now Nvidia is moving beyond custom agreements and standardizing the process — which could present a notable opp…

Unity is cutting 1,800 jobs in the name of "profitable growth"

Unity is laying off around 1,800 workers to "position itself for long-term and profitable growth."

The engine maker reduced its headcount significantly during 2023 and intends to carry that trend into the new year, citing a need to restructure and refocus on its core business.

The company confirmed the news in an SEC filing and said the layoffs represent 25 percent of its current workforce.

Unity expects the costs and charges associated with the cuts—including severance payments and other payouts—to be largely incurred during the first quarter of 2024, but noted it cannot "reasonably estimate" how much the move will cost at this time. Come from

Rayman creator Michel Ancel has given fans a rare glimpse of the franchise's pixelated beginnings after unearthing a SNES version of the original Rayman that never saw the light of day.

Writing on Instagram, Ancel explained that before Rayman made its debut on the Atari Jaguar, he was working on a version for Nintendo's popular SNES system.

Despite being playable, that version of the game was never finished, and until now was believed to have been lost for good.

Mobile dev Gismart forms publishing partnership with Appodeal

Mobile developer Gismart has teamed up with monetization outfit Appodeal to publish indie games and apps on smartphones.

The pair are particularly interesting in signing casual and hyper-casual games, alongside music, entertainment, and utility apps, and say they'll help developers at every stage of the publishing process.

Gismart made a name for itself as a developer of music-focused mobile apps and titles, while Appodeal operates a full stack ad monetization platform.

"Unlike many publishers we don’t set strict product performance metrics at the initial stage of collaboration." said Gismart CEO and co-founder, Dmitri Lipnitsky. Come from
