SteamVR now supports motion smoothing in beta
Valve has brought support for motion smoothing to SteamVR through an opt-in beta.
The feature aims to help devs compensate for dropped frames in Steam-hosted VR games by anticipating frame jitter and masking those dropped frames. All in all, the feature aims to lower performance requirements for VR games and apps on Steam.
Valve dives into how SteamVR’s motion smoothing works and how it differs from the way TV sets handle motion smoothing in a post on its site. In short, Valve says that a player that flips on motion smoothing significantly lowers performance requirements for SteamVR games since those games really only have to render every other frame. Source 2 and VR- Highlights from Gabe Newell’s Reddit Q&A
Gabe Newell and a few compatriots from Valve answered questions from the Reddit community for a little over an hour today, offering a seemingly informal look into the company's current operations. The "Ask Us Anything!" thread, titled "WeAreA videogame developer AUA!", is filled with comments and questions from users and, rarely, Gabe himself or one of his compatriots. Their answers offer some interesting insight into Valve's current projects — Source 2, Steam, VR, and more — along with a glimpse of where the company is headed next. Hunting down these answers in the original thread (which is over 9,000 comments strong as of publication) is a time-consuming affair, so for your convenience we've highlighted some of Newel…

The Switch sold over 830,000 units during Thanksgiving week alone
Over 830,000 Nintendo Switch consoles were sold in the United States last week, making for the system’s best overall sales week in its nearly 3 years out in the wild.
Those numbers come straight from Nintendo itself, and kick the console’s lifetime sales in the Americas to 17.5 million units. Last we heard, the Switch had sold somewhere over 15 million units in North America, as of mid-October.
Nintendo attributes this surge in Switch demand to a suite of attractive Black Friday bundles advertised that week, the recent launch of the portable-only Nintendo Switch Lite, and the console’s expansive game library Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches . Bot…
