PSA- 1 week left to register for childcare services at GDC 2019!
Hey devs, just a quick heads-up today that if you're thinking of bringing children with you while you attend GDC 2019 next month, the advance deadline to register for the program is next Monday, February 18th!
Registration is handled on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's a really good idea to register as soon as you can. It's of course possible to register on-site, but we can't guarantee KiddieCorp will be able to accommodate on-site registrations and doing so is not recommended.
If you've never taken advantage of it before, know that the KiddieCorp children's program is for children ages 6 months through 12 years old and will be situa…
Sales down 25 percent at close of GameStop’s third quarter
Sales across nearly every product category at video game retailer GameStop declined year-over-year, with the once-ailing company’s collectible business once again representing the lone rise in year-over-year sales.
GameStop as a whole reported a net loss of $83.4 million, which is less than the $488.6 million loss the company year prior — with a couple of caveats.
That GAAP number for the quarter ending November 2, 2019 includes $43 million in impairment charges. GameStop also notes that the previous year's loss included the Spring Mobile business that it has since sold off.
Sales have been on a downturn for a while now at GameStop, and this quarter continues that…
Roblox adds more parental controls to its revamped child safety procedures
New child safety protocols have come to Roblox, and parents now have greater insight into what their kids are doing on the creation platform.
As part of the new reforms, parents can access parental control features from their own devices, rather than needing their child's to do it. They can now link their accounts to their child's, which lets them see their child's friends list and playtime and establish limits on screentime, in-game content, and how much real-world money is spent on Roblox.
These features were first reported by Bloomberg in October, and have been deemed &quo…
Sony’s skipping E3 again in 2020
Today a Sony representative told GamesIndustry.biz that the company won't be attending E3 in Los Angeles this summer because "we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year."
This will be the second year running that PlayStation won't have an official presence at E3, suggesting Sony still doesn't see E3 as an event worthy of significant investment. Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches
Instead, the company stated it plans to "build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe" w…

Roblox launching new child safety measures in November
Bloomberg reports a new series of child safety reforms are coming to Roblox sometime next month. In an email to the outlet, Roblox Corp. said the new measures "are part of [our] commitment to making the platform one of the safest online environments for our users, particularly the youngest users."
These changes will require users age 13 or younger to have parents' permission to access certain chat features within the game creation platform. Players age nine and younger will also need permission to play games that contain "moderate violence or crude humor," in the email's words.
For parents, there will reportedly be a new account type that will allow them to monit…
Report- Roblox inflated user numbers and downplayed child predator presence to investors
Update (10/9/2024): Roblox Corp. released a statement in which it "rejects" the claims made by the Hindenburg Report, and alleges the firm "neglected to accurately report" on several parts of its business.
For example, it argued that Daily Active Users are defined as a player that logs in and visits Roblox on a "unique, registered account on a given calendar day." As such, DAUs for a specific period "is the average of the DAUs for each day during that [time]."
This method, it stated, "better reflects global engagement on the platform compared to a method based purely on a calendar-day cutoff."

Report- Cut loose from Konami, Kojima is starting his own studio
There's a brief report published (in Japanese) on the Nikkei website this week that claims Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has officially left Konami and is working to establish his own studio. Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches
However, the Nikkei report is thin on details — no clear source is cited, and there's little hard data reported in story (which was quickly translated by NeoGAF users) other than the claim that Kojima's official last day as a Konami employee was December 15th.
Still, that's well in line with previous reports on…

Roblox Corp. posted its financials for this year's third quarter, which CEO David Baszucki called "exceptional" thanks to key financial and operational metrics growing at "high rates" well above the guidance the company posted during the second quarter.
As of September 30, 2024, the company made $919 million in net sales and bookings of $1.12 billion, up by 29 percent and 34 percent respectively compared to the previous year. Daily Active Users (DAUs) rose by 27 percent year-over-year to 88.9 million, and hourly engagement figures hit 20.7 billion, an increase of 29 percent.
This growth, Baszuscki said, "demonstrate[s] the strength of ou…
