Epic Games Buys Fall Guys Dev Mediatonic, Expanding Its Battle Royale Empire

Fall Guys developer Mediatonic has been acquired by Fortnite studio Epic Games, expanding the North Carolina developer’s battle royale empire even further and paving the way for Epic’s vision of a “metaverse” of sorts–not to mention the “tremendous growth potential,” according to Tonic Games co-founder Paul Croft. How exactly that “growth” will play out for both Fall Guys and Fortnite remains to be seen, but the powers behind both companies seem optimistic. Both are hit battle royale games with a similar style and tone, so a crossover may not be out of the question.

“Huge news! Mediatonic are pleased to announce that we’ve joined the Epic Games family,” the UK studio said on Twitter. Separately, Epic Games confirmed in a blog post that it acquired the entire Tonic Games Group, wh…

Fallout Veteran Says His New Game Wouldn't Exist Without Game Pass

Pentiment director Josh Sawyer has said that it is likely that Pentiment would not exist without Xbox Game Pass.

On November 15’s episode of Waypoint Radio, as spotted by Twitter user BenjiSales, Sawyer said that the content of his new game is too niche for most traditional publishers to pick it up. Sawyer said, “Xbox knew the project existed in a vague sense, but we didn’t show anything to them until after our virtual slice…then we had already executed on the core idea and [Microsoft] was very supportive.” Game Pass, as well as Microsoft’s official ownership of Obsidian, gives the studio flexibility to pursue smaller projects.

While his experience has been positive, Sawyer did say that “it’s totally reasonable to look at it and say there’s a tradeoff for both developers a…

Destiny 2 Has A Lot Of Seasonal Story Backtracking For A (Mostly Technical Limitations) Reason

Seasonal missions in Destiny 2 generally have a predictable cycle, as each weekly adventure involves bullets and backtracking. Typically, these missions will require players to head to several locations for a debriefing, usually with one of the main Destiny 2 characters at their usual location or through a holoprojector located in a different social hub. This has been a point of contention for some players, but as Bungie explained, this particular gameplay loop is necessary due to budgetary and technical constraints.

“There are logistical reasons why this happens. Sometimes it’s how the quest was built as part of the overall gameplay loop and its incredibly hard after the fact to change it, such as in Season of the Forge where you had to visit Ada multiple times,” Bungie explained…

Fall Damage Will No Longer Kill You In Destiny 2

Destiny 2 update 7.0.5.0 arrived earlier this week, but the patch notes were missing a number of changes it implemented. Bungie has now confirmed a number of additional missing patch notes, the most notable one being that fall damage is no longer lethal to players.

In the revised patch notes for the update, Bungie shared that “fall damage is now nonlethal to players,” noting that “only collision damage was nonlethal.” While some players have wanted fall damage to be removed entirely, making it nonlethal is a welcome change, as it will at least mean being able to survive a big fall without relying on their jump ability. Bungie shared that this change would be coming with the Lightfall expansion back in February, noting that collisions “will generally leave you a…

Family Guy Creator's Ted Movie Is Becoming A TV Series At Peacock

A TV series based on Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s 2012 movie Ted is in the works for the streaming service Peacock. The network has ordered a full season.

There is no word yet on the plot for the Ted TV series, apart from the fact that it’s believed to be a prequel to the original movie. The series is about a talking teddy bear, so it could conceivably go in an…

Apex Legends Writers Tried To Do More In-Game Quests, But Couldn't

Apex Legends has just dropped a huge lore reveal, with its latest Stories from the Outlands introducing Ash as the game’s next playable hero, while also unravelling some mysteries about who the simulacrum really is. In a reply to a tweet expressing this disappointment, Apex Legends’ narrative director Tom Casiello said that the team had attempted to integrate some of the storylines as quests, but ultimately weren’t able to do it right in the amount of time allowed.
